Buffalo created its new Linkstation mini, which is a very compact network hard drive. It is not only compact, but provides much disk space too. The measurements of the hard disk are 40 x 82 x 135 millimeters, and its weight is 500 grams. This size is possible by using two 2.5” hard disks, and each provides 500 GB disk space. The Linkstation also doesn’t need as much power as its bigger brothers do. The installed hard disks can be used in RAID5 or RAID0 mode. The first mode is made for higher security, because every byte gets copied on each disk, and in this case the disk size is reduced to 500 GB. The second mode provides more disk space (1 TB) but no security features. The Linkstation gets connected to the network by using an Ethernet cable, but it is also equipped with 2 USB ports. Those ports can be used for connecting a printer or external drives. The price of this network hard disk is 85.000 Yen (that’s about € 540,- without any taxes), and it will be available at the end of the 2nd quarter of 2008.
