Xiaomi teases its new 165Hz gaming phone with 144FPS gaming test

Xiaomi is gearing up to hold a relatively big launch event in China. Set for April 21, 2026, it will unveil a new gaming phone, a small iPad mini-esque tablet, a budget-friendly pad, and a laptop lineup. Among them, some new official details of the smartphone have emerged.
As Xiaomi has confirmed, the Redmi K90 Max will be powered by the Dimensity 9500, MediaTek's current flagship SoC. It will be paired with the dedicated D2 graphics chipset. Along with the active cooler, this combination promises to offer "top-tier gaming experience."
With a separate teaser, the company claims that the phone can hold 144FPS in Honor of Kings, a demanding game, without the temperature exceeding 37°C. Xiaomi also highlights that the display sports multiple gaming-focused features to ensure a comfortable experience.
For example, there's DC dimming and a newly customized eye protection mode that reduces blue light. These promises long gaming sessions without needing to worry about eye strain.
Previously, Xiaomi confirmed that the Redmi K90 Max will come with a 6.83-inch display with a 165Hz refresh rate. It's an M10 panel with a peak brightness rating of 3,500 nits, and the brand says that it's optimized for clear visuals.
There's still no word on the price yet, but the Redmi K90 Max is expected to be a bit more affordable than the K90 Pro Max, which currently has a starting retail price of CNY 4,199, around $614 (curr. $604.11 on TradingShenzhen).
