Xiaomi's OnePlus Nord killer could be launched soon as a POCO smartphone with a 120-Hz display
The OnePlus Nord was one of the most-hyped smartphones of the year so far, with the Chinese OEM returning to its roots by offering up an affordable device with reasonable specifications. We praised the terrific price-performance ratio of the OnePlus phone in our review but were troubled by its slightly dim display and so-so camera equipment. There was immense interest in the OnePlus Nord, with over four million Amazon “Notify Me” requests being made for the device. Unsurprisingly, Xiaomi wants a piece of that action and is likely to take on the Nord with a smartphone coming from either the POCO or Redmi stables.
We already reported on a PR stunt in regard to this topic that was made by a POCO representative on Twitter, so it seems Xiaomi could launch its OnePlus Nord killer via the POCO brand. Some alleged details about an upcoming mid-range smartphone from Xiaomi have already started leaking out, along with the above-mentioned 120-Hz display. Apparently the potential Xiaomi/POCO smartphone could also come with a 64 MP main camera sensor and will utilize fast-charging technology, possibly up to the level of the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra (120 W), although it would more likely be set at a much lower rate for a mid-range device.
With an AMOLED screen and Qualcomm processor, the “Nord killer” from Xiaomi/POCO will supposedly be launched in September. The OnePlus Nord features a Snapdragon 765G, 90-Hz AMOLED screen, 48 MP main camera sensor, and 30 W fast charging, so Xiaomi could certainly attempt to trump the rival in terms of specifications by offering a higher refresh-rate screen, better camera, and faster charging technology. But Xiaomi also has to keep in mind the attractive price tag of the Nord smartphone: From £379/€399/₹27,999 at the OnePlus official store.
