Xiaomi releases new high-end smartwatch with transparent design
Xiaomi has launched numerous devices today at its Xiaomi 18 series launch event in China. Ultimately, the focus will remain on its latest flagship smartphones. However, it has bolstered its wearable division with new models, too.
Not only has Xiaomi replaced the Watch S4 41 mm (curr. $139 on Amazon) with a direct successor, but it has also introduced a new size missing from the Watch S5 series. Specifically, the company has unveiled the Watch S5 Transparent Edition with a 47 mm case, compared to the 46 mm equivalent found on the original Watch S5.
Moreover, the Transparent Edition contains Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass 3.0 technology in a bid to maximise scratch resistance. Also, the new smartwatch offsets its transparent case with a stainless steel bezel. Unfortunately, Xiaomi has limited the Watch S5 Transparent Edition to 5,000 units. Hence, it seems unlikely that this model will be sold outside China.
The Watch S5 Transparent Edition retails for CNY 2,499 (~$372). In comparison, the original Watch S5 started at CNY 1,099 (~$163) in China and rose to CNY 1,299 (~$193) for Forged Carbon and Midnight Blue versions. Please see Xiaomi's website for more details.
