New smaller Surface Pro coming with Snapdragon X2 to complement 90 Hz display
Microsoft will be taking to San Francisco on October 7 to host a new Surface event. Principally, the company is expected to share more details about the Surface Laptop Ultra and Surface RTX Spark Dev Box. So far, the company has provided limited information about both devices.
However, a recent leak did shed more light on the Surface Laptop Ultra before its full unveiling. According to Roland Quandt, Microsoft has more Surface devices up its sleeve than its first RTX Spark-based devices, though. Writing on WinFuture, the leaker reports that Microsoft will soon introduce a new Surface Pro 12-inch as well.
Although exactly when remains unknown at this point, Quandt has obtained more details about the device known internally as 'Cabo'. Reportedly, the new Surface Pro 12-inch leverages Qualcomm's Snapdragon X2 platform, mirroring the larger Surface Pro 12 with its 13-inch display (curr. $1,349 on Amazon). The former is unlikely to contain the same Snapdragon X2 Plus and Snapdagon X2 Elite processors as the latter, though.
If last year's release is anything to go by, then Microsoft will opt for the Snapdragon X2 Plus X2P-42-100, currently the weakest chipset in Qualcomm's Snapdragon X2 lineup. Moreover, we suspect that Microsoft will return to the 38 Wh battery and 90 Hz display used in the original Surface Pro 12-inch, based on past performance.
