It has been a long road for the Mi A2 Lite and its Android 10 update. Promised to be "in the final testing phase" in December, the Mi A2 Lite remains on Android 9.0 Pie builds of Android One over two months later. The device has received the January 2020 security patch since December, but that has not appeased Mi A2 Lite owners.
While Xiaomi is yet to officially confirm when Android 10 will make its way to the Mi A2 Lite, there is some encouraging news. Xiaomi has now posted the Android 10 kernel source code for the device, confirming that the OS upgrade is at least in development for the Mi A2 Lite. Posted on the Mi OpenSource GitHub, you can read the kernel changes here.
We would not get too excited yet, though. The publication of the Android 10 kernel source code does not necessarily mean that the Mi A2 Lite will receive an OS upgrade anytime soon. On the one hand, it only took Xiaomi about 48 hours to release Android 10 for the Mi A2 from when it published the device's kernel source code. On the other hand, the Mi A3 is still yet to receive Android 10, despite having its kernel source code published on January 10.
With Xiaomi blaming the outbreak of COVID-19 for delaying the release of Android 10 on the Mi A3, we are not holding out much hope for a swift turnaround for the Mi A2 Lite. Speculatively, expect the Mi A2 Lite to receive Android 10 towards the end of March, or perhaps early April.
