Xiaomi released the Mi A1 in the US on September 5, 2017 as an Android One device, and Android 10 arrived two days short of this handset's second anniversary. Sadly, Xiaomi decided not to update the Mi A1 — which proved to be a very popular product in many markets — with Google's latest mobile operating system, which would have been the third such update for it.
Earlier today, I noticed a software update notification on my phone and it seems that the new software has been ready since yesterday, not long before midnight. Although I was well aware that there was virtually no chance to see the Android 10 update, I thought about all the other Mi A1 users out there and the fact that hope dies last. In this case, we are talking about the security patch dated February 1, 2020. The details regarding the build can be found in one of the screenshots at the end of this article.
These being said, I think that Xiaomi Mi A1 users should not give up on their phones yet. After all, there is already a nightly LineageOS ROM based on Android 10 for it and we can only hope that a rock-solid release will become available in the coming months. The more adventurous ones can find the aforementioned nightly ROM on this page.
If you're one of those still using the Xiaomi Mi A1 in 2020, feel free to share your thoughts with the rest of us in the comments section. Have you already tried an unofficial Android 10 ROM on it? Are you going to remain on the official firmware until you move to another device? Is there any LineageOS alternative for the Mi A1 that you are keeping an eye on?
