Xiaomi's Mi A-series is part of the Android One program, which offers stock Android software, two major OS updates, and timely patches. As such, it's been something of a surprise that the company's current phones in the series, the Mi A2 and Mi A3, have yet to receive the Android 10 update even when Xiaomi's regular MIUI phones have. Thankfully, that is about to change.
Xiaomi has now updated its kernel source code resource with source codes for the Android 10 firmware of the Mi A2 and Mi A3. That's as good a sign as any that the software update is set to be sent out soon. We're not sure when exactly, though, but we'd be surprised if it didn't land sometime this month.
While the Mi A-series still appeals to purists, it's a tad annoying that Xiaomi appears to be gimping phones in that lineup. The Mi A3, for example, offers decent hardware but has received plenty of flak—and rightfully so—for its 720p AMOLED display.
Timely software updates are also supposed to be a major perk of the Android One program, but owners of the Mi A2 and Mi A3 may just be questioning their purchases now that a number of Xiaomi's MIUI-powered offerings are already on Android 10, while they remain on Pie.
The source report makes no mention of the Mi A2 Lite, but we expect it to receive the update soon. The Mi A1 has already gotten its two major OS updates, so we don't see it receiving Android 10.
