Xiaomi only released the Mi A2 Lite in July 2018, during which it has received one OS upgrade. Despite being eligible for two OS upgrades under the Android One program, Xiaomi appears to have already abandoned the device.
We had been given to thinking that the Mi A2 Lite would receive Android 10, although the arrival of just the January security update this month was not quite what we thought Xiaomi had in mind. Now, a Xiaomi representative has been screenshotted as writing the following:
...Xiaomi is not releasing the update [Android 10] for MI A1 and A2 lite.
Xiaomi released the Mi A1 in September 2017 on Android 7.1.2 Nougat, so it should come as no surprise that Android 9.0 Pie is the end of the road for the Snapdragon 625-powered device. However, the Mi A2 Lite not receiving Android 10 would seem to contravene Google's "two years of OS upgrades" commitment for the Android One program.
Regardless, the future looks bleak for the Mi A2 Lite. We have seen no evidence of Android 10 for the device so far, not even the publication of kernel source code. We would not rule out Xiaomi Support being wrong on this one though, as Xiaomi would likely get into trouble with Google over dropping the Mi A2 Lite so soon.
