Xiaomi confirms that the Mi A2 Lite will receive Android 10 after all
Owners of the Mi A2 Lite, the global version of the Redmi 6 Pro, have had a rough ride of things lately. There had been hopes last year that an upgrade to Android 10 was around the corner, with Xiaomi confirming that the associated update was in the final stages of testing. Then, the January update came and went with only a newer security patch, which Xiaomi followed by claiming it had ceased support for the device altogether.
Unsurprisingly, fans of the Mi A2 Lite were unhappy about the possibility of their smartphone being abandoned after one OS upgrade, especially as Google requires OEMs to deliver at least two year's worth of OS upgrades to their Android One handsets.
Now, following an ambitious Change.org petition, Xiaomi has confirmed that the Android 10 update is in development after all. In a plea to one Mi A2 Lite fan, a representative stated the following:
kindly give our team of developers a few more weeks...
However, as the transcript below demonstrates, Xiaomi is still not offering a release date for the update, at least not publicly anyway. We should point out that Android 10 will likely be the final stop for the Mi A2 Lite, but it should receive security patch updates into 2021. Hopefully, Xiaomi will have released Android 10 to the device by then, too.
