Xiaomi has begun teasing the release of the Redmi K60 Ultra on social media, shortly after the smartphone appeared on Geekbench. Also known as the Redmi K60 Extreme Edition, the handset will be one of the few that utilises the Dimensity 9200 Plus, which MediaTek introduced in May. For reference, the Redmi K60 Ultra will rival the iQOO Neo8 Pro and Vivo X90s, both Chinese exclusives.
As we discussed at the time, MediaTek created the Dimensity 9200 Plus by overclocking the ARM Cortex-X3 and Cortex-A715 CPU cores found in the Dimensity 9200 by 9% and 20%, respectively, to 3.35 GHz and 3 GHz. While the Cortex-A510 CPU cores remain unchanged at 2 GHz, the ARM Immortalis-G715 GPU received a 17% bump to deliver combined 10% performance gains and 10-35% power efficiency improvements.
According to Xiaomi, these improvements allow the Redmi K60 Ultra to score 1,774,714 points in AnTuTu, aided by the company's new Furious Engine 2.0. For context, this score would see the Redmi K60 Ultra outperform the forthcoming OnePlus Ace 2 Pro, which utilises the more powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Hence, it seems that Xiaomi has managed to close the gap between the Dimensity 9200 Plus and Qualcomm's current flagship smartphone chipset. However, we would recommend waiting for independent reviews to arrive before passing judgement.
Currently, Xiaomi has only teased that the Redmi K60 Ultra will be available sometime later this month. By contrast, the Portugese website 4gnews alleges that the Redmi K60 Ultra's global model, the Xiaomi 13T Pro, will debut on September 1. Referenced by the likes of GSMArena, this information appears to be a repetition of that revealed by Amazon UK in June. The retailer also seemingly confirmed that the Xiaomi 13T will launch for £799 with a 144 Hz AMOLED display, a 5,000 mAh battery that supports 120 W wired charging and Leica-tuned cameras, among other features.
