MediaTek has officially unveiled its flagship Dimensity 9200+ chipset with faster Cortex-X3/Cortex-A715 cores and a 17% faster Arm Immortalis G715 GPU.

MediaTek has unveiled its newest SoC for high-end smartphones, the Dimensity 9200+. We got a glimpse of the silicon in action earlier, where it outperformed the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in AnTuTu. It is, however, a mid-cycle refresh manufactured on TSMC's N4P node and brings nothing new to the table except higher clocks on some components.

Its prime Cortex-X3 core is now clocked at 3.35 GHz (vs 3.05 GHz on the Dimensity 9200). Similarly, the Dimensity 9200 Plus' Cortex-A715 cluster operates at 3.0 GHz (vs 2.5 GHz). MediaTek says that its Cortex-A510 cluster is unchanged at 2.0 GHz, and its Arm Immortalis G715 GPU is 17% faster. CPU and GPU performance gains for the Dimensity 9200+ are pegged at 10% each. The chipmaker also says power efficiency has improved from 10-35% for various applications.

MediaTek's Adaptive Game Technology and Frame-rate Smoother (FRS) 2.0 result in up to 12% lower power consumption while boosting frame rates by up to 10%. The 5G modem on the Dimensity 9200+ has remained unchanged, supporting both sub-6 GHz and mmWave networks. In addition, MediaTek has future-proofed its flagship offering with Wi-Fi 7 support with a maximum throughput of 6.5 Gbps. The included Bluetooth 5.3 module can output audio content at 24-bit/ 192 KHz.

OEMs can use up to a 320 MP camera module on Dimensity 9200+ powered devices. Video recording capabilities max out at 8K 30 FPS and 4K 60 FPS, which is a tad lacking compared to the competition. Supported media codecs include H.264 (encode and playback), HEVC (encode and playback), AV1 (playback only) and VP-9 (playback only).

Lastly, the Dimensity 9200+ LPDDR5X (up to 8,500 MTs) memory and UFS 4.0 storage. MediaTek is yet to reveal which phones will feature the AP. If recent history is anything to go by, it will likely debut alongside a Chinese-origin upper-mid-ranger. However, the Dimensity 9200+ runs the risk of obsolescence in a few months once MediaTek launches the next-gen Dimensity 9300 in a few weeks.
