The chances of the Mi A1 receiving Android 10 look increasingly slim, with Xiaomi issuing a new underwhelming update for its first Android One smartphone. Expect to see Xiaomi and Google abandon the Mi A1 altogether by the end of the year.

Released in September 2017 on Android 7.1.2 Nougat, the Mi A1 was unlikely to receive Android 10. However, Xiaomi has not communicated this officially and Google remains unclear about the level of software support that Android One handsets will receive.

The HTC U11 Life has started receiving Android 10, for instance, despite being released in November 2017. While HTC released the handset running Android 8.0 Oreo, the device still fell outside of Google's guarantees by the time that Android 10 arrived.

Now Xiaomi has released a new software update for the Mi A1, and it effectively confirms that Android 10 will not be coming to the company's first Android One smartphone.

The update just contains the March security patch update and is only a 74.3 MB or 77.5 MB download depending on your region. Your device should receive a notification to download V10.0.19.0.PDHMIXM in the coming days if it has not already. Alternatively, you can download the full build from Xiaomi's servers if needs be.

The Mi A1 remaining on Android 9.0 Pie is not necessarily a bad thing, though. Xiaomi has messed up all the Android 10 builds that it has pushed to its Mi A series, so the Mi A1 may have inadvertently dodged a bullet.
