Xiaomi 13: Next-gen flagships to borrow design cues from the Samsung Galaxy S22 as more details surface
After releasing the Xiaomi 12S series in China last week, Xiaomi's next mainstream flagship phones appear to be the Xiaomi 13 series, and information on the phones has now begun to surface, well ahead of launch.
The Xiaomi 13 series will feature Qualcomm's next-gen flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is still months ahead of release, though. Qualcomm recently scheduled its upcoming Snapdragon Tech Summit for mid-November, and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is expected to debut at that event.
Xiaomi has a strong relationship with Qualcomm and is generally one of the first OEMs to bring new Qualcomm flagships chipsets to the market. That trend may continue with the Xiaomi 13 series and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, and it wouldn't be surprising to see the flagship phones launch in China shortly after the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 makes its debut. That would corroborate information from back in May claiming the Xiaomi 13 series would launch earlier than typical. Previous generations launched at the very end of December, for some perspective. An early December launch event for the Xiaomi 13 series wouldn't be out of place.
According to leaker Ice Universe, the Xiaomi 13 series will sport equal-size bezels on all sides, a la Galaxy S22 series. The phones can be expected to come equipped with 120 Hz QHD+ AMOLEDs, like the Mi 11, Xiaomi 12, and Xiaomi 12S lineups. According to Xiaomiui, the Xiaomi 13 is codenamed "Nuwa", while the Xiaomi 13 Pro goes by "Fuxi", continuing Xiaomi's tradition of myth-inspired codenames.
