Xiaomi has presented the 12S Pro with Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset. Essentially a more powerful version of the Xiaomi 12 Pro, the Xiaomi 12S Pro also has Leica-tuned cameras, a 1440p display and a 4,600 mAh that supports 120 W fast charging. The Xiaomi 12S Pro starts at CNY 4,699 (~US$702) in China and is available with up to 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage.

Xiaomi has launched the 12S Pro, one of three 12S series members. Closely resembling the Xiaomi 12 Pro, the Xiaomi 12S Pro features upgraded cameras and a new chipset. Fundamentally, the Xiaomi 12S Pro is a mid-generation refresh before the Xiaomi 13 series arrives later this year, though.

Still, the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 in the Xiaomi 12S Pro should deliver performance improvements over its predecessor. LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage remain, as does a 4,600 mAh battery that supports 120 W wired, 50 W wireless, and 10 W reverse wireless charging. Xiaomi states that the device features a 2900 mm² vapour chamber cooling system too, but the Xiaomi 12 Pro relied on the same cooling method too.

Likewise, the Xiaomi 12S Pro has a 6.73-inch AMOLED display like its predecessor that maintains a 3,200 x 1,440-pixel resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate. Incidentally, the Xiaomi 12 Pro has a 480 Hz touch sampling rate, downgraded to 240 Hz with the Xiaomi 12S Pro. For reference, the Xiaomi 12S Pro's display peaks at 1,500 nits with HDR10+ and Dolby Vision certification, too.

On the face of it, the Xiaomi 12S Pro has the same cameras as the Xiaomi 12 Pro. Hence, the former utilises the Sony IMX707 as its primary camera, which has a 50 MP resolution, a 1/1.28-inch optical format, OIS and a 24 mm equivalent focal length. Also, there are 50 MP portrait, 50 MP ultra-wide-angle and 32 MP front-facing cameras. Reading Xiaomi's specification sheets, the Xiaomi 12S Pro's portrait camera has a 2 mm longer equivalent focal length than its predecessor; the difference between 48 mm and 50 mm is minor, though. Ultimately, Leica's camera tunings will distinguish the Xiaomi 12S Pro from the Xiaomi 12 Pro.

Xiaomi will offer the 12S Pro in four configurations at launch, starting with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. It is worth noting that while Xiaomi shows the 12S Pro in four colour options, these are only available with 256 GB of storage configurations. The full configurations and prices for the Xiaomi 12s Pro are as follows:

  • 8 GB of RAM/128 GB of storage - CNY 4,699 (~US$702)
  • 8 GB of RAM/256 GB of storage - CNY 4,999 (~US$747)
  • 12 GB of RAM/256 GB of storage - CNY 5,399 (~US$807)
  • 12 GB of RAM/512 GB of storage - CNY 5,899 (~US$882)
