This week, Microsoft is adding just one new game to Xbox Game Pass, but it’s a true AAA title: Watch Dogs: Legion. The third installment in the open-world action-adventure series, following Watch Dogs and Watch Dogs 2, revolves around hacking, surveillance and digital control. Set in a dystopian near-future London, Legion depicts a city under the grip of a totalitarian surveillance regime. The private security firm Albion enforces control through constant monitoring, but the hacker group DedSec is determined to resist.
Players step into the role of a DedSec operative, using cutting-edge hacking technology to fight oppression. Watch Dogs: Legion features classic open-world elements like missions, exploration and vehicles but puts a strong emphasis on hacking - hijacking cameras, controlling drones and even disabling entire transport networks. Whether sneaking through missions or going in guns blazing, the choice is up to the player. A standout feature compared to its predecessors is the ability to recruit and play as any citizen in London, from cab drivers to spies, each with unique skills. Alongside the main story and numerous side activities, the game also includes an online mode for co-op missions.
Developed by Ubisoft Toronto, Watch Dogs: Legion launched in 2020 and still costs around $60 on Steam. However, the game has received a mixed response. On Steam, it has over 9,000 reviews, with only 57% being positive. On Metacritic, it holds a Metascore of 76 and a User Score of 5.9. Criticism focused on technical issues, a weak story and repetitive gameplay. Bugs, crashes and performance problems were especially common on older consoles. With no fixed protagonist, many players found the dialogue generic and lacking emotion. Weak enemy AI and repetitive missions were also points of frustration. Still, if you have an Xbox Game Pass subscription and haven’t played this open-world adventure yet, it could be worth a try. Watch Dogs: Legion joins Game Pass on February 25.
