Chinese manufacturer Shenhuo New Materials Technology is now mass-producing 8-micron double-sided photovoltaic cell foil, a breakthrough for battery components. According to the company, they can produce around 100 tons a month, making it the slimmest battery foil currently mass-produced in China.
This ultra-thin foil works like a current collector in lithium-ion batteries, helping gather and carry electrical current to other circuits. According to Shenhuo New Materials deputy GM Mao Yunfeng, making the foil thinner improves battery energy density and overall performance.
The new 8-micron foil is specially designed for high-end batteries, such as those in mobile phones, 3C electronics, and even robot power systems. It is thinner, improves conductivity, and helps keep charging more stable.
Shenhuo New Materials has impressive production capacities for aluminum-based products: They can churn out 140,000 tons a year of battery and double-zero foil, 180,000 tons of cast-rolled foil, and 150,000 tons of cold-rolled foil. They’re also expanding their battery foil billet production to handle 110,000 tons a year.
The company plans to keep developing even thinner aluminum foil options, hoping this will push China further ahead in the aluminum foil manufacturing sector.
