DeepSeek might have stirred up controversy when it came public, but automakers are proving to be among the first to embrace the 'low-budget' AI offering. Two Chinese EV makers have announced they are integrating the latest AI tech in their cars.

Chinese EV makers Geely and Voyah have announced plans to integrate DeepSeek AI in their cars. The former, the parent company for popular brands like Volvo, Polestar, and Zeekr, is working on its own AI model known as "Full-Domain AI for Smart Vehicles." It will form a huge part of the driving experience by enabling features such as voice commands and fully autonomous driving. The AI model will also assist in further product research and development.

Geely plans to make its AI warm, empathetic, and continuously evolving. It has now turned to DeepSeek to train and refine its in-house model. DeepSeek's datasets will be integrated into Geely's AI using distillation training to power its next-gen connected cars.

Fellow Chinese EV maker Voyah (owned by Dongfeng Motors) has also announced efforts to incorporate DeepSeek in its Courage (Zhiyin in the local market) EV crossover and Dream MPV. Thus, the two models will be the first cars on the market with DeepSeek.

Chinese media reports that the Courage EV will receive DeepSeek in an over-the-air software update on February 14. Voyah says DeepSeek will make its existing AI more responsive, accurate, and scalable. Over time, the update will enable functions such as writing poems, painting, chatting, and retrieving information in real-time.

Other Chinese EV makers have also indicated they will adopt the DeepSeek model. Xpeng's CEO reportedly told his employees that the low-cost AI model would open up new opportunities.
