The Youdao SpaceOne, a new dictionary pen using DeepSeek-R1, has been launched in China. The gadget can scan text and is designed to answer questions and enhance the user's learning experience. Youdao claims that it is the first AI native learning hardware on the Chinese market.
The pen's tip is 36 mm wide, and the SpaceOne is equipped with an 8MP camera. Plus, there is a 4.4-inch large screen with a 1,210 x 568 px resolution and a peak brightness of 600 nits. The gadget is powered by a 1,650 mAh battery, recharging via USB-C, and offers 64GB storage. Headphones can be connected via Bluetooth or the USB-C port. Other connectivity options include dual-band 2.4 GHz/5GHz Wi-Fi and a built-in eSIM with support for 4G.
The SpaceOne pen features AI Teacher Xiao P, powered by DeepSeek-R1 deep reasoning for detailed answers and tutorials. It has a 78 million-word vocabulary, with support for the Chinese, English, Japanese and Korean languages. On top of this, there is the Hi Echo virtual speaking tutor, as well as apps like Youdao Cloud Notes and Baidu SkyDisk. The SpaceOne is priced at CNY 1,699 (~$234) in China. Whether or when this product could reach other markets in North America or Europe remains to be seen.
