Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) has been pushed back to May next year instead of fall this year. As disappointing as the news was for eagerly waiting fans, it is likely that there will not be any more delays. A former Rockstar developer has stated that the current team seems confident about the May 2026 release and that a new trailer would help in soothing some of the disappointment.
Obbe Vermeij, a former Rockstar developer who worked on GTA 3, Vice City, San Andreas, and GTA 4 believes that there will not be any more delays to GTA 6. The highly anticipated title was postponed to May 26, 2026 but according to Vermeij, Rockstar would not have shared a date if they were not confident about it. So, chances are that May 2026 is set in stone and there will not be another delay.
The May 2026 launch will be for the console version of the game and the PC version will likely arrive a year later. Some users on X suspect that since the game has been delayed to next year, it will arrive alongside the PC version, but Vermeij feels otherwise.
Notably, GTA 4 was delayed from its initial launch date of October 2007 to April 2008. Then, Red Dead Redemption 2 was also pushed back from its initial release date in fall 2017 to spring 2018, and it saw another delay to October 2018. Hopefully, GTA 6 will not suffer the same fate as Red Dead Redemption 2 and actually release on May 26, 2026.
