Vivo previews X100 Ultra-powered AR content and future compatible hardware
The X100 Ultra's Zeiss-branded camera hump is made up of a number of premium shooters, a new 200MP periscope zoom lens included. Now, they are rated to make potentially high-end output intended for use in XR/AR content.
Vivo's Vice President Yu Meng has unveiled this new X100 Ultra feature at the brand's 2024 Imaging Conference. The flagship smartphone's new "cutting-edge 3D imaging capabilities", developed in partnership with Rokid, are touted to make it compatible with the emerging demands of creating high-end "immersive, panoramic" content.
Then again, those same 360° images will be saved in a proprietary stereoscopic format rather than something more universal, which could even be .jpg. Accordingly, one might need Vivo's first-gen AR glasses to view 3D content from an X100 Ultra: hardware now slated to be on the way along with other devices of a mixed reality (MR) nature.
Vivo has hinted that it will start to compete with Apple in this way from 2025 onward. The brand has also unveiled plans to work with Zeiss on image authentication technology for its future smartphones at its latest Imaging Conference.
