The VN-09 is a new sports/action camera aimed at "modern adventurers", i.e., outdoor enthusiasts who want to record fast-paced activities with a hands-free camera, such as running, off-trail biking, motorbike riding, skiing or skydiving. The model has an unusual, elongated shape, similar to a night vision device or a pair of binoculars, which allows it to be more easily mounted on a motorcycle helmet, a rucksack, a bicycle or even the user's arm. Electronic image shake (EIS) is used instead of optical image stabilization (OIS), which can indeed minimize blurring and shaking caused by jitter, wind or vibrations.
The 61.5 x 93.7 x 32 millimeter system weighs 159 grams and has IP67 certification, making the camera dust- and waterproof. A maximum resolution of 5K is advertised, which should allow recordings of 30 frames per second. The 145° wide-angle lens can also take 20 MP photos. A 1.47-inch IPS touchscreen is installed. Voice commands are also supported, making hands-free operation possible. The VN-09 can also be used as a dashcam and is said to have a battery life of up to 5 hours. Lastly, an integrated tactical flashlight also allows for night recording.
The camera is currently available for a price of $189 as part of a crowdfunding campaign, with delivery scheduled for June. Potential supporters should keep in mind that crowdfunding campaigns harbor certain risks, one of these being that a new company is advertising the VN-09.
