No Man's Sky is getting one of the biggest updates of all time. Hello Games is adding billions of new star systems and over a trillion new planets to the game, including gas giants, water worlds with deep oceans and planets teeming with dense jungle.

Hello Games has just released the major Worlds Part II update, version number 5.5, for No Man's Sky (available for the PS5 or Nintendo Switch at Amazon). The update adds trillions of new planets, giving the game much greater variety than before. These new planets include, for the first time, gas giants, water worlds and worlds with new biomes such as dense jungles.

The randomly generated planets now offer far more variety such as higher mountains, deeper canyons, untouched ice worlds and vast plains. To keep water worlds exciting, the update introduces deep oceans that players can explore several kilometers below the water's surface. The fauna has been expanded to include animals such as seahorses, while new plants illuminate the seabed.

Water surfaces have been upgraded to reflect clouds, fog, planets and spaceships flying close above it, while stronger waves are intended to make for a more lively atmosphere. Planets have also become more dangerous with geysers, toxic spores, volcanic eruptions and radioactive plants, alongside familiar environmental events such as storms.

Those who start the game anew can now do so in an abandoned universe devoid of life, which should increase the level of difficulty. Relic worlds full of ruins invite you to explore the history of a bygone civilization. Last but not least, the lighting has been improved and Hello Games has also introduced a way for players to automatically sort their inventory.
