Timex’s new Legacy dress watch is an ultra-affordable homage to the Rolex Day-Date

Timex has just added a new classy dress watch to its Legacy collection, and it’s pretty obvious where it gets its design cues—you guessed it— the Rolex Day-Date. Unless you have $50k to spare on that iconic Swiss watch, Timex’s affordable quartz offering delivers several familiar design details for a tiny fraction of the price. 

The latest model ditches the stainless steel bracelet found on existing models in favor of two interchangeable leather straps, so it gives you even more flexibility and versatility. 

The new Legacy Day and Date (TWG068800) features a 41mm stainless steel case with a polished bezel, brushed lugs, and a ridged crown. The deep green sunray dial,  paired with silver-tone hands and applied hour markers, gives the watch a much more refined look than the existing two-tone model with its bright green dial.

The dial layout will look familiar to anyone who’s spent time admiring Rolex’s flagship dress watch. There’s a day window at 12 o’clock that spells out the weekday in full, while a magnified date window sits at 3 o’clock. The iconic fluted bezel is missing here as Timex is opting for a simpler polished design. If that’s your thing, you might want to check out time-only and date-only models in the Legacy collection instead. 

It would be absurd to suggest that Timex’s effort here is comparable to Rolex in terms of craftsmanship or execution. All we’re saying is that this new 41mm Legacy Day and Date is a solid entry-level offering for anyone who appreciates the classic day-date layout without the luxury-watch price tag.

Unlike its stainless steel bracelet-equipped siblings, the new watch comes with a brown leather strap (along with an extra green strap in the box). Quick-release spring bars make it easier to swap bands, while 50-meter water resistance ensures the watch can handle everyday splashes. A battery-powered quartz movement handles timekeeping, and it’s another reminder that this is firmly an entry-level offering.
