Tidbyt Gen 2 customizable smart display now crowdfunding with discount
The Tidbyt Gen 2 smart display is now crowdfunding on Kickstarter. The gadget is multifunctional, with a vast range of apps allowing you to see what's playing on Spotify, upcoming calendar events, sports results and your local weather forecast. You also have the option to build your own app for the display.
You can use the accompanying smartphone app to program the device, selecting the apps through which the Tidbyt should cycle. Compared to its predecessor, the team have redesigned the gadget, increasing the display's refresh rate, adding audio notifications and a touch sensor that allows you to move between apps more easily. An upcoming feature is Home Assistant to control smart home devices; the tool will launch in an alpha phase later this year, with a full rollout expected early in 2024. The display comes with a kickstand and wall mounting option.
The original model was crowdfunded in 2021 and shipped to over 5,000 people. At the time of writing, the new campaign, ending on November 9, has raised over US$625,000 from more than 3,500 backers, surpassing its US$40,000 funding goal. You can currently pledge US$159 to the campaign to receive the Tidbyt Gen 2; the gadget will retail for US$199, meaning early customers get US$40 or 20% off. The company is shipping worldwide with an estimated delivery date of May 2024.
