With a device price just over $100, product designers for smartphones don't have it easy: what can be left out and which features should be prioritized? And how can you offer good features for such little money?
The Xiaomi Redmi 15C 4G, which we recently reviewed, manages this balancing act quite well. For just over $100, you get a large battery, a reasonably bright screen without PWM flickering and a fairly long update promise.
Let's take a closer look at what we found out in our review.
Battery life king among budget phones
In our real-world Wi-Fi test, the Redmi 15C 4G lasts just under 21 hours, which is enough for several days without charging, and even binge-watchers of series or movies will get their money's worth. In an emergency, the charging power of 33 watts is also quite decent.
The reason for the long battery life is a 6,000 mAh battery, which is a rarity in this price category. Thanks to advances in battery technology, the phone is no heavier than similarly sized phones with smaller batteries.
The other features are also good
If you value a 3.5 mm audio jack, you'll get one. There is also NFC for mobile payments or the ID app and a fingerprint sensor for biometric unlocking. We were also surprised by the six-year update promise. We are curious to see whether this promise will be kept for such an affordable phone.
Where the Redmi 15C 4G falls short
As the name suggests, the affordable smartphone cannot utilize 5G. Xiaomi also had to cut corners when it came to the chassis. Although it has an unusual back cover with a glittering wave pattern, its build is rather mediocre. The camera quality and speakers are also subpar.
Our verdict
The Redmi 15C 4G may well be suitable as a second phone. For more details and our final rating, we recommend reading our comprehensive review.
