Up to now, batteries with 7,000 mAh or more were often reserved for rugged devices. Since these are usually heavier and bulkier due to their protective features, the additional battery weight isn't as noticeable.
A lot has happened in battery technology in recent years, partly due to the emergence of electric cars. Batteries now offer significantly higher energy density at lower weight.
Large batteries have been available for smartphones in China for some time
In China, manufacturers have long since moved on to installing batteries larger than the usual 5,000 mAh in "normal-sized" smartphones. Strangely enough, only slimmed-down versions have ever been available in Europe, and no one can say for sure why this is.
But now the problems seem to have been solved, as Xiaomi is launching the Redmi 15 5G with a 7,000 mAh battery in the West as well, unchanged.
What kind of smartphone is the Xiaomi Redmi 15 5G?
Our extensive testing of the Xiaomi Redmi 15 5G reveals it to be a purely average, no-frills budget smartphone. This is evident, for example, in the plastic casing, which is not particularly sturdy and has a rather plain design. You shouldn't expect too much in terms of speaker or processor performance either.
Battery tests
When it comes to battery life, however, this model is hard to beat. It may "only" rank 38th among all smartphones in the WLAN test, but it is only surpassed by significantly more expensive smartphones and the aforementioned outdoor phones.
When it comes to load runtime, the smartphone even takes first place with a runtime of well over 7 hours. Those who like to play games or watch long movies and series cannot go wrong with the Redmi 15 5G.
