has now presented the Osmo Mobile 8 in China, having also teased the upcoming launch of the Neo 2 drone in the same market. While we await a global release, the company's Chinese product page highlights the differences between the Osmo Mobile 8 and the existing Osmo Mobile 7P (curr. $129 on Amazon).
To recap, pre-release leaks indicated that the Osmo Mobile 8 shared a lot of its components with the Osmo Mobile 7P. Arguably, this should come as little surprise given that DJI only introduced the Osmo Mobile 7P in February alongside the Osmo Mobile 7. Effectively, DJI China has now confirmed as much. For instance, we can glean that the Osmo Mobile 8 features the same dimensions, 215 mm extension bar and 67 mm tripod as the Osmo Mobile 7P.
Likewise, the Osmo Mobile 7P and Osmo Mobile 8 are exactly the same size at 190 x 95 x 46 mm when folded and 288 x 107 x 96 mm unfolded. On top of that, the Osmo Mobile 8 retains the 3,350 mAh (12.06 Wh) battery as the Osmo Mobile 7P, with a 10-hour official battery rating. However, DJI claims that the Osmo Mobile 8 is 2g heavier than the Osmo Mobile 7P at 370 g.
As far as we can tell, the other main difference between the pair is 360° horizontal panning support for the Osmo Mobile 8, which the Osmo Mobile 7P misses out on. DJI has added an NFC chip too as a way of simplifying the smartphone pairing process. The Osmo Mobile 8 retails for CNY 898 (~$125), a 28% increase on the Osmo Mobile 7P's MSRP. Thus, we suspect the Osmo Mobile 8 will cost more than the $149 DJI initially charged for the Osmo Mobile 7P in the US. Unfortunately, there have only been rumours that DJI will release its new smartphone stabiliser globally in November.
