Vivo is slated to debut new X80-series smartphones with 3 to 4 rear cameras tuned by Zeiss and paired to a new V1+ custom ISP later in April 2022. Now, the tipster Digital Chat Station purports to fill in most of the blanks with respect to the line's allegedly Dimensity 9000-powered Pro variant.
First off, there may be bad news for some mobile image CMOS fans, as the reliable leaker makes no mention of the Sony IMX866 with respect to the X80 Pro. Then again, the notion of an "ISOCELL GNV" as a main camera is endorsed in this leak.
The sensor is painted as a new version of Samsung's ISOCELL GN1 that may be exclusive to the X80 series. It may still have a 50MP resolution and a 1/1.31 footprint in the upcoming phone; however, there is also mention of an f/1.57 spec in the GNV, quite close to the f-stop of 1.6 in the X70 Pro+; therefore, it is hard to see how the GNV differs thus far.
Regardless, Digital Chat Station also now asserts that it will be joined by a 1/2-inch IMX598 as 48MP ultra-wide-angle, a 1/2.9-inch IMX663 as a 12MP portrait lens with 2X zoom, and the 8MP Hi847, an SK Hynix component also found in phones such as the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE.
It is slated to act as a 5X periscope ultra-telephoto lens, and may thus be what sets the X80 Pro apart from the X80. Finally, Digital Chat Station alleges that Vivo will employ a potentially interesting combination of glass and plastic to make up the X80-series' lenses.
Finally, this Pro might yet fail to exhibit the most premium camera layout of its new line. Digital Chat Station has also hinted at a "super-large cup", a saying also often applied to Xiaomi flagship 'sizes', and thus, open to interpretation here as referencing an X80 Pro+ variant.
Then again, it may wait to launch in the third quarter of 2022, rather than join its little siblings at Vivo's upcoming April 25 product event.
