Vivo has now acknowledged rumors of a launch for an even higher-end Plus version of its flagship-grade X80 Pro Android smartphone - however, it has also revealed that those plans have just been cancelled. The OEM has reportedly decided to redirect its efforts to a debut for next-gen X90-series devices instead, a Pro+ model included.

Vivo's launch for the X80 and X80 Pro in early 2022 led to projections that it would also release their ultimate flagship counterpart, the X80 Pro Plus or Pro+, with the refreshed Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor. The OEM has just confirmed that it did indeed intend to make such leaks a reality - however, it has now changed its mind.

Speaking to GSMArena, a Vivo representative intimated that the X70 Pro+ was indeed due a successor; however, its development has now been canned. The move could make more sense of recent leaks pointing to a December 2022 launch for the even newer-sounding X90 Pro+.

This smartphone is currently painted as a potentially significant improvement over the existing X80 series, with what might be the world's first Zeiss-branded 1-inch main camera sensor for mobile devices.

Therefore, it may indeed supplant any point to more X80-series phones (which have covered a lot of premium 2022 bases, Dimensity 9000 support and massive camera humps packed with powerful up-to-date sensors included, in any case) as well as challenge other, possibly Snapdragon 8 Gen 2-powered powerhouses such as the Galaxy S23 Ultra on its apparently premature launch.
