How about an AMD-powered XPS 15? It's already one of the most popular and well-known Ultrabooks in the market, but it can be even better and faster with an AMD Ryzen 7 4800H, Ryzen 9 4900HS, or the Ryzen 5 4600H. Fans would eat up an AMD-Nvidia powered XPS especially if it were priced just right.

Since its inception, the XPS laptop family would always come with Intel processors and the occasional Nvidia or Iris GPU. That was never really a problem because mobile AMD chips had never been very competitive especially on flagship laptops like the XPS 13 or XPS 15. Dell would understandably have no real incentive to pair XPS with AMD as a result.

Fast-forward to 2020 and the Zen 2 series has flipped everything upside-down. 14-inch laptops powered by Ryzen processors are now handily outperforming even the latest 10th gen Core i7 and Core i9 laptops that are twice as big and heavy. Resellers like Eluktronics have already proven that you can fit a Ryzen 7 4800H CPU in a 15.6-inch chassis that's even lighter than the XPS 15 and still have it run faster than its top-end Core i7-10875H configuration. The raw performance advantages of these AMD Renoir CPUs over Intel's Comet Lake-H series are becoming undeniable with each new AMD-powered laptop we are testing.

Beyond just performance, the 7 nm AMD CPUs would also pair better with the TDP target of the XPS 15 chassis design when compared to the current 14 nm Comet Lake-H CPUs. We've shown that the cooling solution of the XPS 15 can struggle to keep up with the 45 Core i9-9980HK, but the 35 W Ryzen 7 4800HS would work wonders without needing to sacrifice performance or heavily modify the existing fans or heat pipes.

Of course, additional modifications will be necessary for both the motherboard and software, but other manufacturers are already offering both Intel and AMD SKUs like the Lenovo Legion 5 and Legion 5i or the HP Omen 15 Intel and Omen 15 AMD. There is absolutely no reason from a technical standpoint that Dell cannot do the same with its revered XPS 13 or XPS 15 families.
