The Best Convertible Notebooks (2-in-1 Laptops)
Convertibles, also known as two-in-one or multi-mode PCs, are hybrids that can be used as a tablet or a laptop. There are many different types: docking tablets with a keyboard base, slider solutions over a fixed keyboard unit or clamshell chassis with a 360-degree hinge. The following list contains notebook convertibles and 2-in-1 notebook convertibles, aka conventional notebooks with a special hinge that allows a 360 degree rotation of the display in order to be used in tablet mode. Windows tablets with extra keyboard or convertible notebooks with detachable display can now be found in a separate top 10 list here.

Note: The switch to a new rating system took place in June 2024. In the new v8 rating, the criteria were adapted to current hardware developments, new points were added and individual measurement methods were changed. As a result, the v8 ratings are slightly lower than under v7. The new v8 rating is not directly comparable with previous versions. For this reason, we are listing two tables with the best devices according to v7 and v8 rating here for the time being. Further information on the new v8 rating can be found here.

Convertibles combine the advantages of a tablet and a conventional laptop. True to this solution, the market offers a wide range of devices. The most important criterion is a bright, anti-reflective display so that the user does not have to accept any restrictions even in difficult operating conditions. The general system performance benefits immensely from the current Intel SoCs. However, it becomes apparent here that the cooling very quickly reaches its limits under load due to the quite compact construction, which is why the Core i systems very often drastically throttle the performance after 5-20 seconds. We will specifically deal with this in the individual tests - so it is worth taking a look. SSDs are indispensable, which are not only very fast, but also require very little space in the case, which in turn benefits the battery.
1st – HP Spectre x360 16
With the Spectre x360 16, HP has a very powerful convertible in its portfolio and uses Intel's Meteor Lake processors. We tested the device with Intel Core Ultra 7 155H and were very impressed. The HP Spectre x360 16 also impresses with its high-quality choice of materials and excellent workmanship. There are also many modern interfaces on the connectivity side and even the latest Wi-Fi 7 standard. The battery life is also one of the strengths and HP has really hit the mark with the Spectre x360 16 in terms of emissions.
The HP Spectre x360 16 has been raised to a new performance level with many improvements and is therefore significantly better than its predecessor.
In the US, interested user can directly purchase the 2024 HP Spectre x360 16 at HP's online store. Alternatively, Amazon also lists an Ultra 7-155H version for around $1,800.

The compact 14-inch convertible scores points with 16 GB RAM and a 1 TB SSD, among other things. There is also a great 120 Hz OLED display and long battery life. The high-quality casing is slightly smaller than its predecessor, which is also reflected in a slightly lower weight.
Overall, the Lenovo Yoga 9 2-in-1 presents itself well. The performance is good and the convertible also looks good.
Interested users can order various configurations of the Lenovo Yoga 9 2-in-1 via Lenovo's web store.

3rd – HP Elite Dragonfly Folio
The HP Elite Dragonfly Folio 13.5 G3 offers a great design as a convertible and a fast SoC with the Intel Core i7-1265U. However, the 3D performance is only offloaded to the iGPU, which means there is no dedicated graphics card. The high-quality and thin chassis includes all the essentials including USB 4 and Thunderbolt 4. There is also an LTE modem, which significantly expands the usage scope of the HP Elite Dragonfly Folio 13.5 G3.
With the HP Elite Dragonfly Folio 13.5 G3, you get a real workhorse with good convertible features that make working easier.

4th – Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga G8
The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga G8 now comes with the new Raptor Lake U CPU, replacing the ThinkPad X1 Yoga G7 from last year. With the new SoC, users can look forward to a fast processor. However, the known disadvantages remain. The SoC could not develop its full potential in the test. Nevertheless, the new Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga G8 can outperform its direct predecessor with better performance. The high-end business convertible offers a very high-quality casing and a matt 16:10 touch display. The good system performance is paired with a multitude of modern interfaces and the good input devices make the device interesting for frequent writers.
The new Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga G8 cannot significantly differentiate itself from the very good ThinkPad X1 Yoga G7.

As the predecessor of the Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Yoga G4, the Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Yoga G3 comes with an Alder Lake processor, which offers ten native cores as the Core i7-1265U. 32 GB DDR4 RAM, a 512 GB SSD and a high-resolution display round off the overall package. The Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Yoga G3 also impresses with a lightweight carbon chassis and a wide range of features. The input devices are as good as usual, securing the Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Yoga G3 a place in our top 10 list.
The Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Yoga G3 is a solid working device. With Alder Lake, you get more performance, but this comes at the expense of battery life.

9th – Lenovo ThinkPad X1
Based on the Intel Core Ultra 7 165U, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 offers Intel's latest mobile CPU architecture based on Meteor Lake. However, the CPU performance could only be increased minimally. The rest of the equipment is impressive, as the OLED display impresses with good measurement results and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. Fast Wi-Fi and Thunderbolt 4 are good and provide plus points in the overall rating. The same applies to the great speakers and the stylus, which is included in the scope of delivery. Unfortunately, the stylus itself can no longer be accommodated in the casing.
The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 2in1 G9 has a new casing, which also has its drawbacks. Despite the latest CPU, the performance of the predecessor cannot be noticeably improved.
The new ThinkPad X1 2in1 G9 can be configured and ordered directly from Lenovo.

10th – Dell Latitude 9450 2-in-1
With the 2024 Latitude 9450 2-in-1, which is the direct successor to last year's Latitude 9440 2-in-1, the innovations are limited. The newer model is now available with Intel Meteor Lake U processors, replacing the older Raptor Lake U models. In our test, we took a closer look at the top model with Intel Core Ultra 7 165U together with 32 GB LPDDR5x and a 512 GB SSD. Longer battery runtimes despite the faster SoC are good and show that efficiency has been increased.
The 2024 Dell Latitude 9450 2-in-1 is a good working device for everyday tasks. If you don't necessarily need AI acceleration, you can also opt for the predecessor model.
At the time of publishing, the Dell Latitude 9450 2-in-1 can be ordered directly from the manufacturer's online store with prices starting at $2,319.
