8BitDo is known for its gaming peripherals, but it also makes PC accessories such as keyboards and mice. Last year, it announced the 8BitDo Retro R8 Mouse - Xbox Edition which has a transparent green case similar to that of the original Xbox console. It has now announced a version of the mouse that pays homage to the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES).
Officially called the 8BitDo Retro R8 Mouse - N Edition, the new mouse is functionally identical to the Xbox Edition. However, it adopts the color scheme of the NES like the 8BitDo Retro Mechanical Keyboard - N Edition (curr. available on Amazon for $89.99). The scroll wheel and sides are gray, the side buttons are red, and the rest of the shell and click buttons are off-white.
Included in the box is a multi-functional charging dock which not only charges the mouse but houses the adapter and extends the signal. The mouse also has two programmable buttons on each side, a PAW 3395 sensor that allows adjusting the DPI levels between 50 and 26,000, and the polling rates between 125Hz to 8,000Hz.
The mouse is suitable for both left and right-handed users and can be connected via Bluetooth, 2.4GHz wireless, and USB-C wired mode. The 8BitDo Retro R8 Mouse - N Edition has a 450mAh rechargeable battery that is advertised as providing up to 100 hours of use in Bluetooth mode and between 26 to 105 hours in 2.4GHz mode. A full charge takes 2.5 hours.
The 8BitDo Retro R8 Mouse - N Edition is available to pre-order on Amazon and on 8BitDo's eShop for $49.99, and will begin shipping on May 22nd, 2025.
