The 8BitDo Retro Mechanical Keyboard adds European layouts to appeal to more classic gaming fans
The 8BitDo Retro Mechanical Keyboard is a favorite peripheral for nostalgic gamers. While the keyboard features designs inspired by the NES and Commodore 64, it's much more than a novelty. Satisfying clicky switches and low-latency wireless connectivity make it thrive during competitive gaming. Options for the 8BitDo Retro Mechanical Keyboard include British UK, German QWERTZ, French AZERTY, Spanish ES, and Nordic. The N version has the traditional red and gray appearance inspired by retro Nintendo consoles. Meanwhile, the C64 Edition is the only style being manufactured with the British UK layout.
All of the new 8BitDo keyboard variations are bundled with the wired Dual Super Button Unit. Gamers can remap the oversized red buttons to add more functionality to the 87-key device. The Retro Mechanical Keyboard itself is also surprisingly customizable thanks to a hot-swappable PCB board. Kailh Box Switch V2 White switches produce definitive typing action, but some gamers may prefer a quieter alternative.
Although the 8BitDo Retro Mechanical Keyboard pays tribute to older PCs and consoles, it offers the latest wireless connectivity. Gamers can use a lower-latency RF dongle or Bluetooth to pair the keyboard with mobile devices. The lack of RGB or LED backlit keys is a bit odd, but it contributes to an impressive maximum 200-hour battery life.
Since its 2023 release, 8BitDo's wireless mechanical keyboard has already been a global success. The added European layouts only add to its appeal. Game Outlet Europe is pricing the N and C64 editions at €99.99/£85.99.
