After the extremely lightweight Zenbook A14 (less than 1 kg), Asus now also launched a 16-inch version called Zenbook A16, which is once again very light. Thanks to the use of ceraluminum (combination of ceramic and aluminum), the 16-inch laptop only tips the scale at 1.2 kg, so it is around 300 grams lighter than its direct rivals including the slightly smaller Apple Macbook Air 15.
While the low weight slightly affects the subjective quality impression of the smaller Zenbook A14, the Zenbook A16 feels more dense and leaves a better impression, despite its larger footprint. The overall stability is excellent, only the display hinges could be a bit firmer for our taste. You get a sufficient number of ports, the keyboard offers a comfortable typing experience and we already know the 120 Hz OLED screen from the Zenbook S16. The image quality is excellent, but only certain SKUs offer a touchscreen, which will slightly increase the weight.
The heart of the Zenbook A16 is the new Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme with 48 GB RAM, which offers enormous CPU performance and improved GPU performance. The performance in Whisper mode is particularly interesting, because the fans only reach up to ~30 dB(A). Even though the power limit drops below 20W, the multi-core performance is still better compared to AMD and Intel even in High Performance mode. This means you can enjoy a very quiet device without sacrificing too much power.
The battery runtime is the only aspect where the Zenbook A16 is a bit weak, but it is also a result of the small 70 Wh battery (most likely to keep the weight down). The AMD powered Zenbook S16 is equipped with a 83 Wh battery. The runtimes are comparable, which shows the better efficiency of the A16, but users still do not get longer runtimes.
