Steam Deck to get easy access to free games with Junk Store
Playing Epic Games Store and GOG games on the Steam Deck is about to become a bit easier than before as the Junk Store app is now coming to the official Steam store. For those unaware, you will need a third-party tool to get these titles running on the gaming handheld. Popular options include Heroic Games Launcher and NonSteamLaunchers.
As for the Junk Store app, which is now listed on the official Steam store, it will have a couple of downsides when compared to the other launchers. For instance, it will not be a free-to-download app, nor will it be an open-source option. Even so, availability on the official store will eliminate the need to go through any extra steps that may be required to run the games you own in the Epic Games Store and GOG.
Speaking of which, this would also make it easier to play the free games that both the storefronts give away from time to time. Of course, it's worth noting that the developers expressed that there's a good chance that Valve may not eventually allow the Junk Store on the official Steam store.
However, if that doesn't happen, the Junk Store may finally allow the Steam Deck users to play third-party storefront games without needing an external launcher. As the developers say, the app is a "standalone version" with no dependency on Decky loader, and the aim is to "go native."
