The Steam Deck continues to drive the PC gaming handheld market forward, even without there being a second-generation model in sight. Tantamount to the device's success is its adoption by popular accessory manufacturers like Dbrand, Jsaux and Spigen to name but a few.
While Valve includes a case with Steam Deck orders, the likes of Jsaux and Spigen have added kickstands and other features in their ModCase and Thin Fit Pro (curr. $31.99 on Amazon) cases. Now, a new option called the Steam Deck Folio has hit Kickstarter with a completely different approach.
Specifically, the Steam Deck Folio favours convenience over full device protection. In fact, the accessory actually just protects the Steam Deck's centre portion, with the buttons and sides left completely exposed. Adhered via 3M stick-on plates placed onto the Steam Deck itself, the Steam Deck Folio is said to cater to those who prefer the 'feel and ergonomics' of the Steam Deck sans a case but want a degree of protection between play sessions.
To that end, the Steam Deck Folio features thumbstick locks to minimise damage. The accessory also contains a built-in kickstand and cut-outs for the console's I/O to make it compatible with existing docking solutions. Currently, the Steam Deck Folio can be backed on Kickstarter for $49, including shipping. At the time of publication, project creator Andrew Reeves hopes to begin shipments in September, 2025.
