Roughly a week has passed since Retroid released a teaser video for the Pocket Flip 2. To recap, the video contained various new details about the device and how it would differ from the original Pocket Flip. However, Retroid elected against confirming hardware specifications.
Now, the company has finally revealed what hardware will power the Pocket Flip 2, while also outlining launch colour options in the process. Initially, Retroid had showcased the Pocket Flip 2 in two colours, which it has confirmed will arrive as Black and 'GC' for GameCube. The pictures below reveal that a 16Bit US and Ice Blue option will offered as third and fourth colour options. Incidentally, the latter is the only one to sport a translucent finish.
The Pocket Flip 2 will be available in Dimensity 1100 and Snapdragon 865 chipset variants. In other words, the Pocket Flip 2 will be less powerful than popular Android gaming handhelds like the Ayn Odin2 (curr. $449 on Amazon). While the Snapdragon 865 holds up well in the Pocket 5, it remains to be seen how the Dimensity 1100 variant will perform given the 22% performance gulf between the two chipsets in our benchmarks.
Both variants will feature Hall effect and RGB backlit joysticks though, as well as a 5.5-inch AMOLED display that resolves at 1080p with 500 nits peak brightness. All SKUs will ship running Android 13 with 8 GB of LPDDR4X and 128 GB of UFS 3.1 flash storage too. Meanwhile, a 5,000 mAh battery contributes to the device's 140 x 89 x 24 mm and 300 g footprint.
Retroid has not revealed pricing or pre-order details yet. Nonetheless, the performance gap between the Dimensity 1100 and Snapdragon 865 suggests that the Pocket Flip 2 will be cheaper when configured with the former instead of the latter. Please see the images below for more technical details.
