Samsung has now officially presented the 9100 PRO, with details about the company's first PCIe 5.0 SSDs having emerged earlier today. While the ahead of schedule leak revealed a few details about the 9100 PRO range, the German language press release goes into greater detail about the changes Samsung has made between the 990 PRO and 9100 PRO.
For example, updated TLC NAND and a new 'Presto' memory controller deliver up to 13,400 MB/s write speed, as well as the 14,800 MB/s read speeds that were already known. While the 9100 PRO is marketed as being more energy efficient than the 990 PRO (curr. $124 on Amazon), that is not strictly true.
Instead, power consumption actually rises by 2.5 W to 9 W. However, the improvement in transfer speeds should allow the 9100 PRO to complete tasks more quickly than the 990 PRO to the tune of a 49% effective power consumption reduction.
Moreover, Samsung rates the 9100 PRO series for between 600-2,400 TB (TBW) depending on the variant chosen, with a five-year warranty imparted on all SKUs. On top of that, the 9100 PRO series utilises a rear-mounted heat spreader and a nickel-coated controller to maximise longevity. Samsung also installs between 1 GB and 4 GB of LPDDR4X cache, more details for which you can find in the table below.
The 9100 PRO series will go on sale from March 18 in 1 TB, 2 TB and 4 TB variants starting at €182.99 (~$). For now, Samsung states that an 8 TB variant will follow later this year. Full Eurozone pricing is as follows:
- 1 TB - €182.99 (~$192)
 - 1 TB with heatsink - €200.99 (~$211)
 - 2 TB - €273.99 (~$288)
 - 2 TB with heatsink - €291.99 (~$307)
 - 4 TB - €501.99 (~$527.79)
 - 4 TB with heatsink - €519.99 (~$547)
