Samsung has now officially announced the 9100 PRO series. Please see our subsequent article for more technical details about 9100 PRO SSDs and when Samsung will begin selling them.
Original article continues as follows:
It seems that Samsung's first PCIe 5.0 SSDs are almost upon us. Initially, it seemed that the company had finally presented successors to the 990 PRO, which has been available in 1 TB, 2 TB and 4 TB (curr. $319.95 on Amazon) for over two and a half years at this point.
However, Samsung India has now taken down its press release in which it detailed the 9100 PRO and its various improvements over the 990 PRO range. In other words, Samsung India appears to have effectively leaked the 9100 PRO ahead of schedule. An official launch is likely to occur soon, though.
In the meantime, Samsung India's press release outlines that the 9100 PRO series will deliver up to 14,800 MB/s transfer speeds while offering nearly 50% better power efficiency than 990 PRO drives. The new SSDs should also provide Input/output operations per second (IOPS) of 2,200K when reading information and 2,600K when writing information; please note that these values do not directly relate to real-world usage.
Samsung India adds that the 9100 PRO will be available in 1 TB, 2 TB, 4 TB and 8 TB variants. The press release listed prices for all but the 8 TB variant too, although it remains to be seen whether these are representative of pricing for other markets. Regardless, Samsung India states that the 9100 PRO will be sold at the following prices:
- 1 TB - INR 14,999 (~$172)
- 2 TB - INR 25,499 (~$292)
- 4 TB - INR 49,999 (~$573)
