Sony releasing new version of popular WH-1000XM6 over-ear wireless headphoned soon in Olive Grey refresh
The Walkman Blog and Roland Quandt have offered fresh insights into the state of Sony's new WH-1000X release. To recap, the company updated the WH-1000XM6 in February 2026 with a Sand Pink option. More recently, Sony returned with a fifth colour option marketed simply as 'Sandstone' (curr. $459 on Amazon).
Now, The Walkman Blog reports that Sony intends to add to these colours with another soon. Writing on X, the website asserts that a new WH-1000XM6 colour 'will most likely be announced early next week'. Speculatively, this could mean anytime between August 3 and August 5, with August 6 seemingly an outside chance given that it falls on a Thursday in 2026.
Unfortunately, The Walkman Blog has not elaborated further yet. Setting that aside, Roland Quandt has finally revealed the refresh's name. According to the well-regarded leaker, Sony will sell this new version as 'Olive Grey', despite appearances. Nonetheless, Olive Grey is associated with the model number 'WH1000XM6G.CE7', with 'G' denoting Green, hence previous leaks.
For the time being, we await official confirmation that a new WH-1000XM6 is waiting in the wings. In the meantime, a retailer published numerous device pictures towards the end of last month.
