Classic choice of materials: Nimble e-bike features a Mahle hub motor

As an e-gravel bike, the Genesis Croix De Fer 60 is built to be ridden without relying on constant motor support. In practice, the drive system helps with quicker starts and takes the edge off long, steep climbs. Genesis equips the bike with a Mahle X20 hub motor delivering up to 65 Nm of torque. Any additional pedaling resistance introduced by the motor should be negligible—a claim we can largely confirm based on our experience with the Mahle X20 system. Despite the hub motor setup, the bike remains fairly easy to identify as an e-bike due to its battery, which is mounted in the bottle cage holder. At 171 Wh, the battery capacity is below average, even for an e-road bike.

Underneath its classic looks, the Genesis Croix De Fer 60 features modern components. While the fork is made of carbon, Genesis opts for steel over carbon or aluminum for the frame—specifically Reynolds 725 tubing. Drop bars offer multiple hand positions, and drivetrain duties are handled by a 12-speed Shimano GRX RX820 derailleur setup. The bike rolls on Maxxis Rambler tires, which aim to balance low rolling resistance with reliable off-road traction and cornering stability thanks to their open side-knob design.

Weighing in at around 16 kilograms, the e-bike omits everyday accessories, as is typical for road and gravel bikes. It lacks a luggage rack, fenders, and built-in lights, leaving pedal selection up to the rider as well. The Genesis Croix De Fer 60 is listed at £4,500.
