Sony has kicked off a new year with a fresh pair of wireless earbuds. Despite frequent rumours, the company has not refreshed its WF-1000X series with the long-awaited WF-1000XM6. Instead, Sony has decided to update its LinkBuds series with the first new release since late 2024 when it announced the LinkBuds Open and LinkBuds Fit (curr. $89.91 - renewed on Amazon).
This time Sony has presented the LinkBuds Clip, which serve as direct rivals to other open earbuds like the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds or the Huawei FreeClip 2. Theoretically, the LinkBuds Clip's design should make them more comfortable to wear over extended periods than conventional earbuds as the clip distributes its weight around the outer ear rather than against the ear canal.
Also, the lack of any eartips negates the need for a dedicated transparency mode. However, this comes at the cost of passive noise cancellation. Incidentally, Sony has included features like Voice Boost and Sound Leakage Reduction to overcome some of the shortcomings inherent with open earbuds. Moreover, Sony claims that the LinkBuds Clip can be worn all day thanks to 9 hours of battery life and 37 hours of usage before its charging case needs topping up.
The LinkBuds Clip is already available to order in one of four finishes that Sony advertises as Black, Greige, Green and Lavender. Sony has priced its new pair of wireless earbuds at $229.99 in the US, €199 in the Eurozone and £179.99 in the UK. Please see Sony's website for more details.
