Yesterday, Sony shared a rather ambiguous post across its social media channels. Judged by some as the first hint at the WF-1000XM6, the teaser did not show anything explicitly. Instead, Sony merely indicated that it had a 'new form of listening' waiting in the wings that it will unveil on January 21.
Now, billbil_kun has shed light on what Sony has planned for later this month. Writing on Dealabs, the leaker claims that Sony is not teasing its long-awaited successors to the WF-1000XM5 (curr. $149.99 - renewed on Amazon). Instead, billbil_kun reports that Sony will be returning to its LinkBuds series, which last received new releases in late 2024.
Apparently, Sony has created the LinkBuds Clip, which the company will position as an alternative to existing open-earbuds like the Huawei FreeClip. To that end, the LinkBuds Clip is said to feature a hook that attaches behind one's ear to keep the earbuds in place when moving around. According to billbil_kun, Sony will offer the LinkBuds Clip in Black, Cream, Green and Purple colour options for $229.99 in the US and €199.99 in the Eurozone. Currently, the same leaker has also identified the following specifications:
Sony LinkBuds Clip (WF-LC900)
- Touch controls with playback, volume and audio mode gestures
- Multipoint connectivity
- 9 hours battery life, 28 hours additional battery via case with fast charging support
- IPX4 water resistance
- Adaptive volume, EQ, 360 Reality Audio and Spatial Sound support via Sony Sound Connect app
- Dual microphones and voice vibration sensor
