Sony Xperia 1 VI: New leak reveals form factor change for Xperia 1 V successor
Sony has just finished up releasing a new pair of over-ear wireless headphones. However, @OnLeaks and Android Headlines have already moved on to the company's next flagship smartphone, which they believe will launch later this year as the Xperia 1 VI. For context, there have been numerous hints about Sony's next-generation flagship recently, such as through third-party case listings, camera specifications, the manufacturer itself and even talk of a complete redesign.
Based on @OnLeaks' latest leak, it seems that at least some of these earlier rumours were accurate. On the one hand, the Xperia 1 VI retains a 3.5 mm jack, which almost all its competitors lack. Additionally, Sony continues to include a MicroSD card slot, a capacitive fingerprint scanner and a dedicated camera shutter button. While neither @OnLeaks nor Android Headlines have disclosed any camera specifications, Sony's flagship Xperia handset will continue to offer a single front-facing camera sat within a comparatively thick bezel, plus three rear-facing cameras of which one is a periscope zoom lens.
On the other hand, reported dimensions of 161.9 x 74.5 x 8.4 mm suggest that Sony will move away from its recognisable 21:9 aspect ratio. For reference, the Xperia 1 V measures 165 x 71 x 8.3 mm. Thus, it seems that Sony is moving its Xperia 1 smartphones to a more conventional aspect ratio, possibly closer to 20:9. Unfortunately, neither has revealed a release date or other specifications yet. Nonetheless, the Xperia 1 VI is presumed to land with Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, which underpins other flagships like the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, OnePlus 12 and Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra (curr. $1,299.99 on Amazon), among others.
