Seiko has launched a limited-edition 500 TYPE EVA-02 chronograph to mark the Evangelion and Shinkalion anniversaries, with a red-and-black dial, themed markers, and a stainless-steel build. Only 5,000 units will be made in Japan. It's priced at $550.

Seiko has opened orders for a new crossover model built around two long-running Japanese icons: Evangelion Unit-02 and the 500 Type EVA Shinkansen. This limited edition is capped at 5,000 units, made in Japan, and priced at $550 through retailers now listing early allocations. The release window is set for April 2026, and sellers are stating that stock may ship earlier, depending on Seiko’s production timing.

The watch follows Seiko’s previous Evangelion and Shinkalion collaborations, but this one is more like the livery of the 500 Type EVA-02 train that ran on the Sanyō Shinkansen line as part of a real-world Evangelion anniversary project. The color scheme is lifted almost one-to-one: red outer sections, black centre, and metallic accents that resemble the train’s cabin detailing. Even the 1 o’clock marker replicates the circular window frame used on the EVA-02-themed Shinkansen.

The dial is pretty busy. Sub-registers appear in grey with orange indicators, matching Asuka’s EVA-02 palette, while the central red seconds hand has a sharp contrast against the darker mid-dial. Seiko’s luminous hands have a green tint that’s visible in low light, shown in the preview images where the lume rests against the red chapter ring. The tachymeter bezel is made of stainless steel.

Case specs are fairly standard for Seiko’s quartz chronographs: stainless steel, 10-bar water resistance, curved Hardlex crystal, and dimensions of 47 × 39.8 × 12.8 mm. The quartz movement is rated at ±15 seconds per month, which is consistent with Seiko’s mainstream Japan-made quartz modules rather than a higher-end 8T or 7T series. The bracelet is also stainless steel and fits the usual Shinkalion collaborative style.

Packaging is also Evangelion-themed. The red presentation box features full EVA-02 artwork, a 500 Type EVA-02 train graphic, and anniversary badges for both Evangelion’s 30th year and Shinkalion’s 10th.
