Apple's imminent WWDC 24 event is expected to introduce the latest version of iPadOS as well as its iOS 18 counterpart for iPhones. An impressively long list of devices are now linked to eligibility for either major software upgrade - with a few notable exceptions. In addition, iPadOS' rumored AI features may be available to a handful of devices.

Apple's next major software upgrade for iPhones is believed to drop today (June 10, 2024): a potential source of trepidation for those with older handsets that nonetheless still run iOS 17

Nevertheless, the Cupertino giant is now said to leave support in place for all of them, meaning that iOS 18 might be coming to the XR, XS and XS Max as well as the iPhone SE (so long as it is not the first-gen version).

They might be joined in eligibility for the latest software by devices of the iPhone 11, 12, 13 and 14 series as well as the most up-to-date 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max.

Then again, only the last 2 of those handsets are projected to get a version of iOS 18 with "Apple Intelligence". Similarly, iPadOS 18 with the same rumored new buzzword is now believed exclusive to the 20212022 and 2024 iPad Pros, as they are the only ones with M-series chipsets.

Meanwhile, other Apple tablets might now see their official support end at iPadOS 17. Those effectively discontinued tablets even include models such as the second-gen, or 2017, Pro models; all Mini and Air variants from 2018 or earlier; and the iPad 6.
