Apple has released a series of feature updates for the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac, including new anti-stalking features designed to protect users from trackers that use Google's "Find My Device" network.

On Monday, Apple began rolling out the latest operating system updates for the iPhone 15 and older iPhones back to the iPhone XR. iOS 17.5 primarily introduces new anti-stalking features. In future, iPhones will be able to notify users when a third-party tracker is nearby, not only if it is an AirTag, but also for products that use Google's new "Find My Device" network.

Google is expected to release an Android update soon that will enable devices running Android 6.0 or later to detect third-party AirTags. This is intended to prevent trackers from being misused for stalking purposes. However, some products, such as Samsung Galaxy SmartTags or Tile Tracker, cannot be detected by this feature. Another exciting aspect is that, with iOS 17.5 and iPadOS 17.5, users can now officially download apps directly from developer websites.

Anti-stalking measures aside, the almost 1 GB update to iOS 17.5 only contains a new wallpaper called "Pride" in five different color schemes, which is being distributed to iPhone users just in time for Pride Month in June. The 2.4 GB macOS Sonoma 14.5 patch only introduces new features and security updates for Apple News+.

watchOS 10.5 is also a relatively minor update: users receive a new Pride watch face, which has already been announced as part of the Apple Watch Pride Edition.
