Samsung rumoured to debut new SOS satellite connectivity on Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus and Galaxy S24 Ultra with unchanged prices from Galaxy S23 series
The Galaxy S24 series remains over a month away from its rumoured launch event, which is said to occur in mid-January after CES 2024 finishes. Unsurprisingly, various leaks about Samsung's next flagships have surfaced in the last few weeks, including one that contained official promotional images and detailed specifications. More recently, The Elec issued a conflicting report about the Galaxy S24 Ultra's camera hardware though, covered separately.
Now, a new rumour alleges that Samsung is bringing emergency SOs satellite connectivity to the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus and Galaxy S24 Ultra. For context, this was claimed to be headed to the current Galaxy S23 series too, but it never materialised. Hence, we would take this rumour with a healthy amount of scepticism for now.
Unfortunately, other details about Samsung's SOS network remain unknown at the time of writing. However, we suspect it will mirror Apple's equivalent that it introduced with the iPhone 14 series. Thus, the technology should only be noticeable when a Galaxy S24 series handset makes an emergency call without being connected to a mobile or Wi-Fi network.
Separately, Samsung is alleged to have settled on pricing for its next flagships. Citing unchanged RAM configurations and the return to a twin chipset strategy, Hankyung claims that Samsung has decided it cannot justify charging more for the Galaxy S24 series than this year's models. The website also mentions that Samsung is aiming to sell up to 33 million Galaxy S24 models in 2024 too, although this appears to be a repackaged rumour from TheElec, which it reported in September.
