Reviews for the Samsung Galaxy S10

87.4% Samsung Galaxy S10 Smartphone Review | Notebookcheck
Samsung has priced the smaller version of the top-tier S10 models more attractively than the S10+. In addition to its smaller display comes a lower capacity battery, a single front-facing camera along with less internal storage. Likewise, there is no option for a ceramic back as there is with the S10+. Read on to find out how the Galaxy S10 compares against its Plus namesake and how it stands up against other modern flagships.
Update: Additional battery life tests added.

The Galaxy S10 was indeed a very special flagship for Samsung as it brings a new design language as well. Not just that it also marks the 10th anniversary of the premium flagship lineup. With the 10th gen of the most successful lineup, Samsung brought a number of new upgrades ranging from design, display, powerful hardware, and new triple cameras setup. It was also the company’s first phone with Corning Gorilla Glass 6, PowerShare and Under-glass fingerprint scanner. Last but not least all these goodies come at a significantly higher price than the predecessor. Overall the S10 is a solid flagship offering a lot of stuff for people who are looking for a compact premium phone.

Even more than a year since its release, the Galaxy S10 offers superfast performance and a beautiful display, with a less distracting camera cutout than on the larger, pricier S10 Plus. I also love that the S10 offers my favorite feature, Wireless PowerShare. That means you don't have to splurge on the priciest Galaxy to reverse-charge all of your devices.

The Samsung Galaxy S10 has a hard time standing on its own. While it is easy to recommend the excellent Galaxy S10 Plus for its battery or the Galaxy S10e for its lower price, it's hard to say the S10 is a better option than either. Let's be clear, the Galaxy S10 is a killer phone that delivers near-perfect performance across the board. The conundrum is deciphering whether it's worth the step up from the S10e, or a step down from the S10 Plus when price and feature list are compared. The S10 may be just right for many, while not enough or too much for others.

Samsung would have you believe the S10 is a giant leap forward when really it’s just an evolution of the already excellent Galaxy S line. The thin bezels and camera cut out might not be to your taste, but we can’t argue with the quality of the amazing display.

90% Samsung Galaxy S10 Review: We have a new king
Source: Slashgear English Archive.org version
The Galaxy S10 family are flagship phones at flagship prices. Even the most affordable S10e still costs $750; a Galaxy S10 128GB is $900, and the Galaxy S10+ starts out at $1,000. Max out the S10+ and you’re looking at $1,600. Yes, that’s basically what you’ll pay for Apple’s 2018 iPhone range, but that doesn’t mean it’s not an astonishing amount to splash out on a smartphone.

Source: Techradar English Archive.org version
The Galaxy S10 is a fitting 10th anniversary phone for Samsung and its storied S series. It delivers on change with a novel-looking Infinity-O screen so large it displaces the front camera, and a triple-lens rear camera that takes ultra-wide photos. Its in-screen fingerprint sensor tech should serve you well, while its Wireless PowerShare could serve your friends well. That’s a lot of change – just know that it comes at a high price.

In the end, we feel like the Galaxy S10 is the superb phone we could have predicted it was going to be. Years of refinement have brought us to a place where groundbreaking changes are unlikely, but as incremental upgrades go, this is one of the more meaningful ones and it's easy to recommend.

We find the industrial design to be beautiful, but the more important point is the quality of the materials and how good the general build is. The Galaxy S10 is simply excellent and we warmly recommend it and giving it an “All-stars” rating.

With MWC 2019 now behind us, numerous competitors have released equally stellar looking smartphones. The S10 is far from a reinvention for the series, and I’m slightly disappointed the main camera hasn’t seen an obvious update, but there’s plenty here regardless.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Camera Review
Source: Ubergizmo English English Archive.org version
The rear camera system of the Samsung Galaxy S10 is impressive and very well balanced. Samsung did make incremental improvements over the Galaxy Note 9 (and S9) functionalities, but it is really the addition of an excellent ultra-wide camera that takes the S10 to the next level of mobile photography.

Galaxy S10 review: Samsung’s completely redesigned flagships live up to the hype
Source: BGR English Archive.org version
Samsung’s Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ start at $899.99 and $999.99, respectively, and the base models ship with 8GB of RAM as well as 128GB of storage and microSDXC support. That means for $100 less than the base iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max models, you get twice as much storage along with expandable memory. The Galaxy S10 series is still quite expensive, but that comparison should help put things in perspective.

Source: NDTV Gadgets English Archive.org version
Samsung unveiled three new Galaxy S10 series models at an event in San Francisco on Wednesday - the Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+, and Galaxy S10e. Samsung's latest flagship offerings are packed to the gills with features in the hope of giving sales at the top-end of the market a boost after the underwhelming showing by the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy Note 9. The headline feature on the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ is perhaps the in-display “ultrasonic” fingerprint scanner, while all three new phones feature “hole-punch” selfie cameras at the top-right.

Samsung Galaxy S10 review (early verdict): return of the king

For the tenth anniversary of its flagship Galaxy S range, Samsung has added a bevy of meaningful changes and improvements to the S10. There's no question this is easily the best smartphone that Samsung has ever built – and that's really saying something. It might even be the best Android smartphone, but we'll need to spend a lot more time with the device before making that call.

Samsung Galaxy S10 hands-on: Tenth-anniversary flagship done right?

So here’s a revelation on our part that may surprise you: The Galaxy S10e was our favorite of the three models, at least until we had played with the ceramic version of the Galaxy S10+. We are quite happy to see a smaller flagship phone with a flat display. The look and feel of the S10e was unexpectedly nice, and we can see a lot of consumers being attracted by the Galaxy S10e.

Hands on with the Samsung Galaxy S10, S10e and S10+
Source: Sydney Morning Herald English Archive.org version
Overall, the three phones that we could get hands on with before launch don’t have ground-breaking new features, but they do offer solid specs and are an excellent step up from last year’s models (and have the price tags to prove it). Plus, they’re attractive and it’s great to see a smartphone manufacturer think beyond the notch without adding the bulk of a bezel.

Samsung Announces The Galaxy S10: 10th Anniversary Trio
Source: AnandTech English Archive.org version
Finally, I have to really applaud (as weird and sad as that is…) Samsung for continuing to employ a 3.5mm headphone jack on the new Galaxy S10. It’s been very evident that there’s been numerous phone manufacturers who have dropped the headphone jack without much of a plan of what to do to replace its functionality while keeping good and practical audio quality. The fact that Samsung introduced a new set of wireless headphones without getting rid of the standard 3.5mm jack showcases you can have the best of both worlds. Actually if you’d also account for the fact that Samsung also notably increased the battery capacity while keeping the jack further seems to discredit some of the nonsensical rationales we’ve been presented over the past year or two.

Predictably, the latest high-end Galaxies don't fail to dazzle. They have the fine build that we've come to expect from Samsung's flagships, class-leading displays that are now synonymous with the brand and cameras that have taken the next evolutionary step by embracing the ultra-wide angle modes. Samsung Galaxy S10 initial review: Hole-y moly
Source: Pocket Lint English Archive.org version
With each year passing in the smartphone market it's increasingly difficult to produce a device markedly better than the previous one, so it's almost foolish to expect a major jump or revamp over the last. For Samsung, the age-old "if it ain't broke" mantra most definitely applies. There are improvements, and in some areas even market leading ideas, like the UltraSonic fingerprint sensor which - we hope - outperforms the current in-display optical ones.

Comment

Model: The Samsung Galaxy S10 is a flagship smartphone that introduces the next generation of Samsung's mobile innovation. The S10 is completely redesigned to remove interruptions from user’s view. It has no notch, thus no distractions. It features precise laser cutting, on-screen security, and a 6.1” Dynamic AMOLED that's easy on the eyes. The Infinity-O display is the most innovative Galaxy screen yet. The dynamic AMOLED screen is HDR10+ certified. Dynamic Tone Mapping ensures amazingly real color and contrast in each scene, even the dark ones. And the brighter screen helps users see it clearly even in bright daylight. Paired with stereo speakers and Dolby Atmos, the experience is truly immersive. Samsung moved the fingerprint scanner from the back to the front, creating a revolutionary, on-screen sensor. Using ultrasonic pulses, it detects the 3D ridges and valleys of the user’s fingerprint, so only the user can access his phone. It's secure and convenient, even allowing users to unlock, drag, and hold to open the app they want.

As for the camera, it has a triple camera setup consisting of a 12 MP, f/1.5-2.4, 26 mm (wide), 1/2.55", 1.4 µm, Dual Pixel PDAF, OIS camera, another 12 MP, f/2.4, 52 mm (telephoto), 1/3.6", 1.0 µm, AF, OIS, 2x optical zoom camera, as well as a 16 MP rear camera. For the selfie camera, it has a 10 MP camera with f/1.9, 26 mm (wide), 1.22 µm, Dual Pixel PDAF. The f2.4 aperture mode helps photos come out sharp in bright daylight, whereas the f1.5 aperture mode pulls in more light to brighten up low light scenes. A dual pixel sensor captures action shots with precision and clarity, for in-focus selfies that are well-lit, even in low light.

Delivering performance to the Samsung Galaxy S10 is a Exynos 9820 octa (8 nm) CPU processor with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB ROM. It also has a Neural Processing Unit, so it recognizes more scenes with greater accuracy. It's how the Galaxy S10 detects the environment with Scene Optimizer and sees more with Bixby Vision. The Intelligent Performance Enhancer recognizes mobile habits, optimizing the way users interact with the phone. It even anticipates needs and preloads frequently used apps so they launch instantly. As for battery, it packs in a non-removable Li-Ion 3,400 mAh battery at 7.8 mm device thickness and a weight of 157 g, running on Android 9.0 (Pie) with One UI.

Thanks to the power of Fast Wireless Charging 2.0, the S10 wirelessly charges faster than previous Galaxy phones when using a Samsung Wireless Charger Duo Pad, and with the charger's Turbo Cooling Fan, users won't have to worry about phone overheating. The Galaxy S10 also feature an IP68 rating, the highest mobile device standard for water and dust resistance. Finally, the Samsung Galaxy S10 is certainly different from the previous S series smartphones. Not only the hardware but the entire design is different. It is recommended for business or power users who have a high budget for a new smartphone.

ARM Mali-G76 MP12: Integrated graphics card based on the second generation of the Bifrost architecture. Uses 12 of the 20 possible clusters and according to ARM offers twice the performance per cluster than the old Mali-G72.

Exynos 9820: The Samsung Exynos 9 9820 is a mobile SoC for smartphones that integrates 8 CPU cores (2x Samsung M4 @ 2.7 GHz and 2x AMR Cortex-A75 @ 2.3 GHz for performance and 4x Cortex-A55 @ 1.9 GHz for power saving), an LPDDR4x memory controller and a Cat.20 LTE Advanced Pro modem for up to 2 Gbps download and 316 Mbps upload). The integrated GPU is an ARM Mali G76MP12.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

6.10":

It is a small display format for smartphones. You shouldn't be severely defective in vision, and you won't see much detail on the screen and only have a small resolution available. For that, the device should be small and handy, easy to transport.

» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

Samsung: Samsung Group is the largest South Korean conglomerate and was founded in 1938. Samsung Group employed 489,000 people in 2014 and is one of the world's largest companies in terms of revenue and market strength. Samsung manufactures a wide range of electronic products, including smartphones, televisions, home appliances and semiconductors. The company's Galaxy line of smartphones is one of the most popular in the world. Samsung is also a major player in the semiconductor industry, making memory chips and processors for many other electronics manufacturers.
